Item type:Publication, Psychometric properties of the Strength‐Based Parenting Questionnaire in a sample of Chilean early adolescents(Wiley, 2026-05-06); ; ;Mariavictoria Benavente; Alejandra Galdames
ABSTRACT
Objective
This study assessed the psychometric properties of the Strength‐Based Parenting Questionnaire (SBPQ) in a sample of Chilean early adolescents.
Background
Most parenting assessments rely on parents' or caregivers' reports. This is the first study in Chile to evaluate strengths‐based parenting through adolescent self‐reports.
Methods
A cross‐sectional, correlational‐predictive design was employed with the participation of a nonprobabilistic sample of 254 adolescents, (41.3% girls, 55.1% boys, and 3.5% another gender), aged 10 to 15 years ( M = 11.93, SD = 0.80) who attended socioeconomically vulnerable schools. Descriptive and correlation analyses were conducted using SPSS. Construct validity was tested through confirmatory factor analysis, and discriminant validity was evaluated via correlation between SBPQ and the Student's Life Satisfaction Scale using Mplus.
Results
The SBPQ demonstrated excellent internal consistency (α = .97). Confirmatory factor analysis supported a two‐factor structure—strengths knowledge and strengths use—with good model fit. A significant moderate correlation was observed between the SBPQ and the SLSS5 ( r = .681, p < .01).
Conclusion
The SBPQ shows strong psychometric properties and supports evidence‐based assessment of strengths‐based parenting in Chilean early adolescents.
Implications
This work provides a resource for research and interventions on positive parenting and adolescent well‐being, grounded in adolescents' perspectives.
3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Psychometric Properties of the School Sense of Community Scale (SOC-S) for a Sample of Chilean Adolescents(SAGE Publications, 2025-05-22) ;Mariavictoria Benavente; ; ;Alejandra GaldamesThis study assesses the psychometric properties of the Sense of Community Scale in School (SOC-S), among 1027 seventh-grade primary school students (M = 12.5; SD = 0.69) in urban schools in Chile. The results affirm the multidimensional conceptualization of the sense of community, aligning with the theory proposed by McMillan and Chavis (1986), encompassing the dimensions of membership, emotional connection, and opportunities. The research validates the factorial structure, reliability, and convergent validity of the SOC-S, supporting its applicability across different cultural contexts. This study contributes to the field of educational psychology by validating a useful tool for measuring the sense of community in schools, facilitating the identification of improvement areas to strengthen relationships and well-being.Scopus© Citations 1 16 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Psychometric Properties of the School Support Scale (SSS) for a Sample of Chilean Adolescents(2024); ;Mariavictoria Benavente ;Alejandra Galdames;
This study assesses the psychometric properties of the School Support Scale (SSS), part of the CHKS’s Resilience Youth Development Module (RYDM; Furlong et al., 2009 ), among 231 sixth- and seventh-grade students in urban public schools in Chile. Results indicated satisfactory psychometric properties, replicating a unifactorial structure observed in prior research ( Hanson & Kim, 2007 ), where items related to caring relationships and high expectations loaded onto a single factor, school support. Significant correlations were found with measures of life satisfaction and school-related affect. These findings underscore the scale’s utility in evaluating student perceptions of school support and highlight avenues for future research to enhance its applicability across diverse educational contexts.
2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Preschool and School Aggression: Adaptation and Validation of the Preschool Social Behavior Scale in Chile(2023); ;Paula Mujica ;Mariavictoria Benavente; Paula Villacura
Recognizing aggressive behavior at an early age is vital to identify problematic trajectories that may increase the risk of behavioral and social adaptation problems at school and during adolescence. This requires scales capable of measuring this behavior. In this study, the Scale of Preschool Social Behavior (psbs) - Teacher Form was validated using a Confirmatory Factor Analysis (cfa) in a national context. We used a sample of 538 children and 12 educators from 4 kindergartens and 5 public schools in Santiago, Chile. The results revealed two main factors: aggression and pro-social behavior, similar to the original scale. This study contributes to the early detection of physical and relational aggression in the preschool stage through the development of reliable measurements that guide prevention programs.
Scopus© Citations 2 1
