However, for businesses, developing data-driven services can be challenging. To address this, we have developed the Data Service Cards (DSCs), a card-based tool to inspire the design of data-driven services. This paper presents two cycles of a design science research (DSR) project, focusing on the second cycle of redesign and evaluation of the DSCs. We conducted a two-step evaluation, including surveys and external expert ratings of data-driven service ideas. Survey results indicate that the DSCs are a valuable tool for developing data-driven services and external experts consider services designed using DSCs to be of higher quality. With the DSCs, we provide practitioners with a tool that facilitates and improves service design and supports digital transformation. Further, we contribute to DSR literature with a rigorous experimental procedure and to service innovation by supporting the early stages of data-driven service innovation.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Llorente‐GonzálezMartin GeissdoerferDespite the growing importance of corporate sustainability, research on strategic alliances between corporations and sustainable startups remains limited. While corporations struggle with implementing radical sustainability‐oriented innovation, sustainable startups face challenges in scaling and validation. Given their complementary resources, partnerships between these entities offer significant potential to accelerate sustainable transitions. However, existing literature has largely overlooked the distinct drivers, barriers, and shared resources that characterize sustainability‐oriented corporate‐startup alliances, focusing instead on conventional or digital‐oriented collaborations. This study addresses this gap through a multiple case study of eight sustainability‐driven corporate‐startup partnerships in Chile. Using a grounded theory approach, we identify 21 drivers, 14 barriers, and 10 shared resource types, revealing the dual role of resource acquisition and legitimacy‐building in fostering sustainable collaborations. Our findings offer new theoretical insights and practical recommendations for enhancing the success of sustainability‐oriented alliances.9 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Managing Capabilities for Achieving Net Zero via a Circular Economy: A Multilevel Framework(Wiley, 2025-10-10) ;Jenni Kaipainen ;Olga Dziubaniuk ;Mikko Sairanen ;Leena Aarikka‐StenroosAbstract: Corporate management faces increasing pressure to achieve both net‐zero and circular economy (CE) goals. As organizations rarely manage this alone, they must develop novel capabilities within themselves and across their value chains and ecosystems. To explore capability development for achieveing net zero via circularity, we adopt a multilevel approach to capabilities theory. We explore an emerging innovation ecosystem and its two key value chains by interviewing 12 organizations pursuing carbon circulation in Finland. The findings are conceptualized into a framework that highlights the need for novel multilevel capabilities to achieve net zero via circularity (i) at organizational level, to improve operations, logistics, and risk management and anticipate policy development; (ii) at value‐chain level, to manage risks, sustainability, synergy exploitation and new business logic; and (iii) at ecosystem level, for systemic knowledge development, system optimization, institutional co‐creation and regionality. Managing capability development from organizational to value‐chain level involves orchestrated or dispersed knowledge‐sharing and value chain design, while at the ecosystem level, it requires a hybrid of these approaches involving knowledge‐sharing, collaborative sensemaking and institutional co‐creation. The findings advance management science and practice with insights into the diversity, allocation and foundational role of organizational‐level capabilities in developing chain‐ and ecosystem‐level capabilities.3 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
