To address this gap, we estimate residential water demand and its price elasticity in Chile, Colombia, and Peru using a discrete-continuous choice (DCC) model that accommodates nonlinear increasing block tariff (IBT) structures. We utilize household-level datasets for Peru and Colombia and a large administrative panel in Chile. Our findings reveal that the price elasticity of water demand varies significantly across countries. Chile exhibits moderately inelastic demand ([Formula: see text] overall, [Formula: see text] during summer months), while Colombia lies in a mid-range ([Formula: see text]), and Peru shows greater price responsiveness ([Formula: see text]). Furthermore, we find variations within each country when we analyze different levels of observed consumption by households. Additionally, household characteristics such as size and income are important drivers for understanding consumption patterns. Our research highlights the need for tailored policies that account for local consumption behaviors and socio-economic factors to improve the effectiveness of block tariff systems, given that IBT holds relevance from a policy perspective. Item type:Publication, MET Exon 14 Skipping and Novel Actionable Variants: Diagnostic and Therapeutic Implications in Latin American Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer Patients(MDPI AG, 2024-12-22); ;Romina V. Sepúlveda ;TAPIA DUFEY, JUAN IGNACIO ;Catalina EstayVicente Soto<jats:p>Targeted therapy indications for actionable variants in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) have primarily been studied in Caucasian populations, with limited data on Latin American patients. This study utilized a 52-genes next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel to analyze 1560 tumor biopsies from NSCLC patients in Chile, Brazil, and Peru. The RNA sequencing reads and DNA coverage were correlated to improve the detection of the actionable MET exon 14 skipping variant (METex14). The pathogenicity of MET variants of uncertain significance (VUSs) was assessed using bioinformatic methods, based on their predicted driver potential. The effects of the predicted drivers VUS T992I and H1094Y on c-MET signaling activation, proliferation, and migration were evaluated in HEK293T, BEAS-2B, and H1993 cell lines. Subsequently, c-Met inhibitors were tested in 2D and 3D cell cultures, and drug affinity was determined using 3D structure simulations. The prevalence of MET variants in the South American cohort was 8%, and RNA-based diagnosis detected 27% more cases of METex14 than DNA-based methods. Notably, 20% of METex14 cases with RNA reads below the detection threshold were confirmed using DNA analysis. The novel actionable T992I and H1094Y variants induced proliferation and migration through c-Met/Akt signaling. Both variants showed sensitivity to crizotinib and savolitinib, but the H1094Y variant exhibited reduced sensitivity to capmatinib. These findings highlight the importance of RNA-based METex14 diagnosis and reveal the drug sensitivity profiles of novel actionable MET variants from an understudied patient population.</jats:p>Scopus© Citations 4 8 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

Item type:Publication, Family vs non family networks: Chile, Mexico and Peru(2023) ;Jose Luis Rivas; Miguel Cordova<jats:sec> <jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Purpose</jats:title> <jats:p>The purpose of this study is to analyze interlocking directorate (ID) networks of family and nonfamily firms (FFs) in Chile, Mexico and Peru.</jats:p> </jats:sec> <jats:sec> <jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Design/methodology/approach</jats:title> <jats:p>Social network analysis methodology allowed us to analyze the position of FFs within the structure of IDs at the local and transnational levels.</jats:p> </jats:sec> <jats:sec> <jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Findings</jats:title> <jats:p>FFs tend to have a higher proportion of board interlocks to other firms, especially FFs. In addition, FFs are more likely to occupy a brokerage position in national IDs structures. Finally, they also have a higher proportion of interlocks to other domestic firms in and nearby geographic areas. Thus, they create transnational networks.</jats:p> </jats:sec> <jats:sec> <jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Originality/value</jats:title> <jats:p>This paper finds evidence that supports three of the premises of interorganizational familiness literature (Lester and Cannella, 2006). FFs are part of national as well as international corporate networks more than other types of firms, through interlocking directorships.</jats:p> </jats:sec>1Scopus© Citations 2 3
