Item type:Publication, Renal angiomyolipomas: Typical and atypical features on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging(Baishideng Publishing Group Inc., 2025-02-28); ; ;Diego ConstenlaJoaquin Cristi<jats:p>Angiomyolipomas (AMLs) represent the most common benign solid renal tumors. The frequency of their detection in the general population is increasing owing to advances in imaging technology. The objective of this review is to discuss computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging findings for both typical and atypical renal AMLs, along with their associated complications. AMLs are typically defined as solid triphasic tumors composed of varying amounts of dysmorphic and tortuous blood vessels, smooth muscle components and adipose tissue. In an adult, a classical renal AML appears as a solid, heterogeneous renal cortical mass with macroscopic fat. However, up to 5% of AMLs contain minimal fat and cannot be reliably diagnosed by imaging. Fat-poor AMLs can appear as hyperattenuating masses on unenhanced CT and as hypointense masses on T2WI; other AMLs may be isodense or exhibit cystic components. Hemorrhage is the most common complication, and AMLs with hemorrhage can mimic other tumors, making their diagnosis challenging. Understanding the variable and heterogeneous nature of this neoplasm to correctly classify renal AMLs and to avoid misdiagnosis of other renal lesions is crucial.</jats:p>4 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings

The indirect decompression of the spinal canal and reduction of the fragment can be achieved with the distraction of the middle column and ligamentotaxis. Nevertheless, the factors that influence the effectiveness of this procedure and its temporality are controversial.</jats:p> </jats:sec><jats:sec> <jats:title>Methods</jats:title> <jats:p>The aim of this observational, cross-sectional study was to evaluate the effectiveness of indirect reduction by ligamentotaxis in thoracolumbar burst fractures according to the fracture’s radiologic characteristics and the procedure’s temporality. Patients diagnosed with a thoracolumbar burst fracture between 2010 and 2021 were submitted to indirect reduction by distraction and ligamentotaxis. A retrospective analysis of radiologic characteristics and temporality of the procedure was performed with an independent sample t-test or Pearson’s correlation coefficient, as required.</jats:p> </jats:sec><jats:sec> <jats:title>Results</jats:title> <jats:p>A total of 58 patients were included in the analysis. Postoperatively, ligamentotaxis significantly improved all radiologic parameters (canal occupation, endplates distance, and vertebra height). Still, none of the radiological characteristics of the fracture (width, height, position, sagittal angle) were associated with the postoperative change in canal occupation. The endplates distance and the temporality of ligamentotaxis significantly predicted the reduction of the fracture.</jats:p> </jats:sec><jats:sec> <jats:title>Conclusion</jats:title> <jats:p>Fragment reduction effectiveness is more significant when performed as early as possible and adequate distraction is achieved using the internal fixator system.
