Item type:Publication, Infrastructure, land use, and the uneven performance of public transport services(SAGE Publications, 2026-01-22) ;Raul Pezoa ;Franco Basso ;Marco Batarce ;Camila Núñez
Ensuring high-quality public transport is a key challenge for cities aiming to reduce car dependency and promote more sustainable and equitable urban mobility. This study examines how infrastructure and urban configuration shape the operational performance of public transport services, using Santiago, Chile, as a case study. We analyze three quality indicators—average speed, frequency compliance, and regularity compliance—and show that measured performance is not only a function of operator efficiency but also of structural factors beyond their control. Our findings demonstrate that external factors play an important role in quality indicators, with implications for contract design: when contracts involve relative performance comparisons between operators, contextual factors should be incorporated to avoid unfair penalization, while in systems like Santiago that use absolute standards, these factors could inform bidding decisions and performance evaluation frameworks. More broadly, our results suggest urban transport policy should consider contextual factors appropriately in contract design and performance evaluation.
1 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
Item type:Publication, From grapes to market: a systematic review of optimization model applications for supporting decision‐making in the wine supply chain(Wiley, 2025-10-05) ;Luis Lillo Otarola ;Franco Basso ;Raul Pezoa ;Paulina QuilodránThe wine industry faces growing challenges across its supply chain due to operational complexity, international competition, and rising sustainability demands. This study presents a systematic review conducted following PRISMA guidelines, analyzing 90 articles published between 1970 and 2024 on optimization models applied to the wine supply chain. We examine mathematical formulations, solution methods, decision levels (operational, tactical, strategic), and supply chain stage coverage. Results show that 87% of studies use deterministic models—predominantly mixed‐integer linear programming—while only 13% incorporate uncertainty. Research focuses mainly on early stages: grape cultivation and harvest (33%) and wine production (38%), with limited attention to bottling (10%) and distribution (7%). Only 12% integrate multiple stages. The identified underexplored areas highlight opportunities to improve climate adaptation for vineyard managers, enable more integrated planning for supply chain managers, and better align sustainability goals for policymakers. By synthesizing these trends and identifying seven strategic research priorities aligned with the International Organization of Vine and Wine guidelines, this review provides actionable insights to strengthen sector resilience, efficiency, and sustainability.2 - Some of the metrics are blocked by yourconsent settings
