<jats:p> Cecilia Membrado is the founder of a marketplace platform for buying and selling second-hand fashionable clothes, that was established in Argentina in 2014. Cecilia needs to take her business to a global scale, starting with opening operations in Chile. The case details all the initiatives taken by the entrepreneur in her start-up and to resolve the issues on her journey to achieve success to the case is largely developed from primary sources. </jats:p>

<jats:sec><jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Learning outcomes</jats:title> <jats:p>Un estudiante de este programa podrá evaluar eficazmente las variables relacionadas con la decisión de una alianza estratégica para el crecimiento mientras, simultáneamente se enfrenta a otras dificultades internas, como lidiar con un equipo “no comprometido”. Además, el estudiante podrá equilibrar y ponderar de manera efectiva los recursos actuales y necesarios, entendiendo que los marcos conceptuales POLC y FODA son útiles y válidos para entender compañías jóvenes basadas en alta tecnología.</jats:p> </jats:sec> <jats:sec><jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Case overview/synopsis</jats:title> <jats:p>El caso cuenta la historia de Tomás Pollak, fundador y CEO de Prey Project, una compañía de software que rastrea equipos robados. El caso cubre el período de 6 años, desde la fundación de la empresa en 2009, hasta su situación en julio de 2015, cuando la compañía enfrentó la decisión de implementar o no una alianza con una institución pública: Policía de Investigaciones de Chile. Tomás debe decidir si toma o no la oportunidad, a la vez que intenta desesperadamente reclutar y retener el talento de la compañía. Este caso destaca varios desafíos de administración y estrategia que comúnmente enfrentan emprendedores, y busca generar discusión en clase sobre cómo estos conceptos de administración siguen siendo relevantes para una startup.</jats:p> </jats:sec> <jats:sec><jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Complexity academic level</jats:title> <jats:p>Estudiantes de pregrado y postgrado o MBA. <jats:sec><jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Learning outcomes</jats:title> <jats:p>The purpose of this paper is to study and identify the four core management principles of the POLC management framework: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. In particular, students are expected to understand that the classical conceptual frameworks used in strategic management are useful and valid for the planning principle in tech startups.</jats:p> </jats:sec> <jats:sec><jats:title content-type="abstract-subheading">Case overview/synopsis</jats:title> <jats:p>This case study presents the story of Tomás Pollak, founder and CEO of Prey, a software company dedicated to tracking stolen mobile devices. It covers a period of six years beginning at the foundation of the company in 2009 and up to 2015, when the company faced the choice of entering into an alliance with a government agency: The Investigations Police of Chile (PDI or Policía de Investigaciones de Chile). Tomás faced the decision of either going through with the alliance, while dealing with the dire need of recruiting and retaining company talent.
